Elaine has been an educator for over 30 years in New York, Georgia and Virginia. She has a
B.S. in Elementary Education a M.S in Reading Disabilities and many extended courses in brain based research as it relates
to the hands-on experience. She helped to start the first in-school, after-school program in New York State.
Her love for children and her belief that self-efficacy
can be accomplished though hands-on learning, is at the heart of The Science Place curriculum. This is a dynamic curriculum that
Elaine evaluates and continues to improve based on teacher input, her own observations, and advances in technology.
All programs are designed to meet the Virginia Science
SOL's by grade level. The support of the classroom teacher as well as promoting the love of science in every child is an ongoing
mission.
She is a mother and grandmother
and resides in Atlanta with her husband, Steve and their dog, Teddy.
Our Scientists
Our scientists are all fully accredited teachers and scientists
with degrees ranging from Bachelor of Arts to Doctorates in their field of science. Many are parents themselves
who are dedicated to providing your students with the quality of education they desire for their own children.
Meet
Natasha Broadwater- Our managing scientist in Richmond. I consider Mrs. Broadwater one of the most talented teachers
I have ever had the pleasure to watch. Her gift for making complex material both easy to understand
and memorable has earred her the respect of classroom teachers though out the city. Most importantly she shares
the values of our company that each child is to be respected, encouraged and is capable of learning.
- BS Elementary Education degree from University of South Florida 1989
- MA Educational Leadership
degree from University of South Florida 1996
- Taught for 5 years in Hillsborough County (Tampa, Florida), switching
grade levels (1st - 5th) every year because I wanted to have as much experience as possible at the elementary school level
for when I applied to be an asistant principal. Interestingly enough, I started an after school science club the year
I taught 5th grade. We were featured in the local paper 3 times that year: 1) for winning the county's recycling contests
for collecting the most cans from our students' families, 2) adopting a manatee from donations the kids in the science club
earned at a walk-a- thon, and 3) for doing a cool experiment where we "blew up the principal" as he sat on top of
an over turned table with the strength of air pressure blown from my class into plastic grocery produce bags that were placed
in between two large tables. Ironically this was the year I was pregnant with Taylor and stopped teaching when she was
born at the end of April.
- During my second year of teaching I also represented my school at NASA in Coca
Beach, FL and got to tour their laboratories and saw food being tested for the space station that was grown without soil....so
science was a favorite subject of mine early on!!!
However, after becoming a mom for the first time, my goals
changed from professional to domestic and solely wanted to be a full time mom! I never quit anything I start so I
continued my master's degree in the evenings while raising our daughters during the day. The University I went to gave
you seven years to finish from the date your took your first graduate degree class, and I did so without any time to spare.
I remember having to leave my final test for graduation with a escort, so they new I wasn't cheating, so I could
pump breastmilk since I was still nursing Toryn at the time.
My husband's work moved us from Florida to Virginia
where I had our 4th daughter. When she entered kindergarten I went back part time to the profession I loved- teaching
and became a substitute teacher at the elem. school our daughters attended.
One day High Touch High Tech (now The Science
Place) did a lesson in the class I was subbing in and I knew right then that is what I wanted to do. I sent my resume directly
to your site online. I eventually got an interview and here I am now.
